First Flight Middle School students in Wanda Jordan's seventh-grade Intro to Office Productivity Classes are being shown how to use the program, Career Cruising, by FFMS and Manteo Middle School Career Development Teacher Debbie Poland. Career Cruising’s engaging interface gets students excited about exploring their options, interests, and aspirations through various activities, such as interest surveys, learning style assessments, exploration, and resume building. Helping students build a future plan connecting school to real life positively impacts their academic achievement, classroom engagement, and career and life success. Career Cruising connects the real world to the classroom with the latest career and labor market information, salaries, and educational pathways. Poland is excited about this program, and says, "It's really, really beneficial." Students also learn essential skills such as financial literacy and goal-setting through video interviews and role-playing activities. Sixth and seventh grade students taking CTE classes are introduced to the program, as are all eighth graders.
