FFMS PTO to host “Mayday, Mayday, Middle School Mayhem” 5K & 1 Mile Color Run and Spring Festival

The First Flight Middle School PTO will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of FFMS with a community wide 5K and 1-mile color run and Spring Festival fundraiser on May 20th. OBX Go Far plans to partner with the FFMS PTO and have their final run of the season during this event. All funds raised will benefit the school.

The color run will offer both timed and untimed courses for all ages and fitness abilities. Along the route, participants pass through vibrant color zones, making it a “colorful experience.” Non-spray zones will also be available. Outer Banks Hospital will be hosting a Runners’ Village and the Health Coach will be on-site. The “Mayhem” will continue with numerous rides, inflatables, activities for all, a silent auction, STEM competition, bake sale and a raffle with exceptional prizes. The FFMS time capsule will be sealed again and will not be opened for another 25 years.

An “Avenue of Caring” manned by local non-profit organizations and foundations showcasing unique services that are provided within the community will be on site, as well as food vendors including Tubbs and Mulligans. Max Radio’s WaterCountry 94.5 will provide live music.

“Rather than sell goods, we want to engage the entire student body and their families in a fitness initiative and a fun family day that aims to encourage a life-long healthy way of living,” says Marsha Griffith, FFMS PTO Vice President, and Fundraising Chair. Griffith has reached out to rising sixth graders at Kitty Hawk, Nags Head and First Flight elementaries as this event can be used as a fun introduction to middle school.

Participants that register by April 21st will receive a sponsor t-shirt, race bib, sunglasses, an individual color packet and a medal. Sign up for the run by visiting www.firstflightMSCR.eventbrite.com or by completing a paper registration form - available at the FFMS front office. Business sponsorship opportunities at $50, $250, $500 and $750 are also available with increasing benefits. Contact Marsha Griffith at 813.495.0294 or FFMSPTO@gmail.comfor more information.
